OCA names team without captain for Nimbalkar Trophy

Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) today named a 16-member team for participation in the Invitational Tournament for Bhausaheb Nimbalkar Trophy to be organised by Maharashtra Cricket Association at Pune from September 18 to 28, 2016. The team will leave for Pune tomorrow, accompanied by coach Debasis Mohanty, physio Subhakanta Sahoo, trainer Manoj Biswal and manager Subhasis Bhuyan.

Surprisingly, Govind Poddar, Biplab Samantray and Basant Mohanty, the three star players of the state have not been included in the team. OCA has not also named the captain and vice-captain of the side.

Altogether eight teams would vie for the trophy. Teams have been divided into two groups and after completion of group league, the top team from each group would qualify for the final. Odisha have been placed in Group-B along with MCA Secretary XI, Vidarbha Cricket Association and MCA Colts. Group-A has been formed with MCA President XI, Baroda Cricket Association, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association and Gujarat Cricket Association.

Odisha would play their opening match against MCA Secretary XI on Sept 18 and 19. The match between Odisha and MCA Colts will take place on Sept 21 and 22. Odisha will take on Vidarbha in their third and last league match on Sept 24 and 25. The tournament will conclude with the final match on Sept 27 and 28.
